Welcome to Thrift Score Thursday 72 and another round of “Things I Didn’t Buy At The Thrift Store”!
I know, I know – given my affinity for thrift finds, you might find it hard to believe that I do, at times, exercise restraint. But the fact is, while I do love to [thrift] shop and impulse [thrift] buys are fun, I try to keep my spending to a very reasonable budget and bring home only things I absolutely love and have a reasonable plan for where they will work or what I can do with them.
I also have a little system where if I spend $20, even if it’s at the first thrift store of the day (I have three that I tend to visit in a row), I cut myself off from shopping and go home. It’s totally self-imposed, but I find it really helps me think through my purchases and avoid that “rose-colored glasses” excitement over every single find.
Anyway, I’ve been saving up photos from my last few trips of things that didn’t quite make the cut or that weren’t perfect for me but I thought were too interesting not to share.
My Finds:
These brass leaf sconces were $9 each. I sadly passed on them since I didn’t have the perfect place for them and they would have sent me home after 5 minutes in the first thrift store I visited. (See my $20 rule above.)
Aren’t these little ceramic forest animal bells so cute?
Okay, now these two perfectly quirky dog mugs are something I really do regret leaving behind. The monocle! The magnifying glass! They would have made the most absolutely wonderful little planters. I am kicking myself for not buying them.
This last find was actually from an estate sale that I went to with a friend. I seriously considered buying this tufted velvet sofa to resell (it was only $75!) but it had a few stains that I just wasn’t sure about getting out and was missing a button on the back. Hindsight is 20/20, and I probably should have bought it. But hopefully it went to a great home and made someone else very happy!
The Features:
Now these are some sconces I don’t think I would be able to leave behind! Rachel (Instagram: urbanacreage) found these at her local Habitat for Humanity ReStore – so lucky!
I adore this moody home office space theeventmaker shared – it’s a stunning blend of vintage, new and thrifted pieces. And I think I spy a twin to my yellow chairs! Lovely!
So last week, one of the features was a brass anchor… This week, it’s a brass propeller! Shared by Crystal (Instagram: clearcutcrystaldesigns), this solid brass propeller is such an awesome art piece and conversation starter!
Fifi (Instagram: kroehlergirl) found this gorgeous and huge (4’6″ x 3’4″) oil painting for only $12! I am so incredibly jealous – such a dreamy score!

cassie @ primitive & proper says
oh those sconces!!!! and i keep forgetting to add dear tst graphic- eek! sorry! will add later!
I’m have a little twinge of regret for those sconces now… And no worries! I’ve been forgetting about dearTST lately, so this is the first time I’ve included it in a while!
STOP IT! That green couch?!?! It’s so good! And for $75 bucks?! I have a sad story about my DearTST submission – hoping to share in the next month or so….
Oh no, not a sad #dearTST story Dena!
Right?! So, so good! Someone else got really lucky, I’m sure!
And oh no – what happened?
I’m surprised at the restraint you showed to leave that sofa behind. I totally hear ya on the whole leaving things behind because it gets to be too much (did you see my side of the garage today?!).
I think it means I’m growing up 😉 I’m cleaning out my own garage right now – it’s definitely inspiring me to look and admire and then leave!
dog mugs! those would, indeed, make awesome quirky planters. ah well. It’s sad but true that the line must be drawn somewhere….
I started regretting them even more when I saw your lovely planter wall!
Thanks so much for the feature shout-out! 🙂
You’re so welcome! Love those sconces!
love the sconces and the sofa
Those were my two favorites too! Kind of regretting leaving both behind now, haha!
Okay that sofa!! Why can’t I be the friend who estate sales with you!?!?!
I hate going to estate sales by myself and Bryan never wants to go with me… There’s officially an opening in my life for the “estate sale friend” position and I feel you’re a strong candidate 😉 Let’s go!
I feel like the ceramic dogs would have fit in your home perfectly! But exercising restraint is important, so definitely keep doing what you’re doing!
Haha. I’ll admit, I did look for them the next time I went!
Great finds, great finds…and some interesting finds this week. I love that you have an infinite respect for the odd things that I would surely pass up at the thrift store and I love how you incorporate it into your home. I know you passed up on your finds, but girl you are brave….I need to budget myself. I would have totally purchased that sofa, it is gorgeous! Thanks for hosting!
Thanks girl! It’s a struggle not to bring it all home, but I’m trying to reform my couch hoarding tendencies! 😉
