Hello sweet friends! I’m so glad to be joining you again for Thrift Score Thursday – I missed it last week because I was visiting family in Connecticut and spent a wonderful five days away from my computer. I did check in on Instagram when I had free moments though and I just love knowing that you guys will keep the party going no matter what!
In the spirit of the day, I actually spent the morning of last Thursday in my grandparents’ basement going through a collection of bins full of old treasures, set aside for family to pick from or for future donation. I was in heaven – you guys, I filled up every spare inch of my carry-on suitcase!
It was like thrift store shopping on crack: everything became extra special with the knowlege that a distant-past family member had loved and treasured it – the kinship of taste, the inkling that I could have been good friends with the kind of person who would buy such things…
I’ll have to share the finds serially, or else today’s post would be excessively long and photo heavy, so I’ll start with one of my favorites (oh, who am I kidding, they’re all my favorite), paired with a recent thrift store find.
I think I’ve gotten the top of the dresser in our bedroom almost to where I want it… I’m such a slow decorator, I always have to wait for the right things to come along. The Don Freedman wall hanging and little ceramic leopard are past Thrift Score Thursday finds, and the miniature card catalog was a DIY project. So that leaves the lamp + the little brass stand and cigar case to talk about today…
I spotted the lamp while out thrifting with a friend and admired it briefly, but wrote it off because it was steeply priced at $30. (And I have this thing where I can only buy things in pairs and didn’t know what I would do with a single lamp. I know, I’m nuts – that brass Greek key base?!)
Cut to me lying in bed one night and having a brilliant vision of exactly where I needed such a single lamp and how insanely perfect it was for the top of the dresser… And a visit to the thrift store where everything in the store just so happened to be 50% off, I am not making this up. It was destiny.
I paired the lamp with a large drum shade I had sitting in the closet, but I may end up finding a more perfect shade for it at some point in the future. (Buzzing the thrifting gods…)
This slim little cigar case is one of the treasures I brought home with me from my grandparents’ house. I adore the colors and typography! It was in a box of old office supplies, so I assume it had long-since found a second life as some kind of storage, but I can’t get the image out of my head of a dapper gentleman deftly flipping it open in offering to his lady friend “between the acts” of a Broadway play. Does that make anyone else just squeal with delight? And I don’t even smoke!
I found the brass plate holder at a thrift store on Tuesday for 85 cents and bought it on a whim. When I saw it next to the cigar case, I knew they were meant to be together!
The Features:
I fell head over heels for this whimsical pottery king pitcher shared by Mera of Red House West (Instagram: redhousewest). His expression cracks me up – solemn and staid, all the while a riot of gorgeous flowers blossoms from his crown.
I discovered this lovely Instagram account through the #thriftscorethursday feed and quickly became mariaski63’s newest follower. Her styling is gorgeous, like this shot showing off the beautifully patterned cover of a vintage Reader’s Digest volume!
What perfect timing – mareejackson shared this incredible vintage Don Freedman wall hanging scored at Goodwill, which is where I found mine as well! I love this piece too!
I always love the chance to spotlight thrift score makeovers! Summer from Simple Stylings (Instagram: simplestylingsblog) found this vintage framed trio and gave them a magical reinvention – see more here. I’m dying to try a piece of paint-dipped art myself!

Thanks Cassie! It seems like a nobrainer now, but I can’t believe I wasn’t actually that drawn to it at first! I’m lucky it was still there despite my blindness!
Great finds! Your treasures this week are great – the little cigar case is darling.
Thank you Kristen! There are “finds I love” and “finds I plan to keep forever” and the little cigar case is definitely in both categories!
Your dresser’s looking so good! And I LOVE that king pitcher–how fun is that?!
Thanks Gretchen! And yep, that Mr. King pitcher is amazing!
Really enjoyed the descriptive way you spoke of the cigar holder- I can totally see a dapper gentleman offering cigars out of the darling tin.
Thank you Trisha! One of the reasons I love vintage finds so much is the feeling of history that accompanies them – I’m a complete sucker for romanticizing days gone by!

I haven’t gotten around to all the IG photos yet (it’s a busy, busy day for me), but I love, love, LOVE your finds in particular! Your features are perfect as well….I love the King, too, and he is giving me ideas! Ideas which, like most of my other ideas, will likely never see the light of day. But still….ideas!
Everybody found such amazing stuff this week!
Aw, thank you so much Kim! You’ve totally piqued my interest with your king brainwave… Whatever it is, I vote “go for it”! 🙂
Oh my gosh that little leopard on your dresser. So sweet, and just perfect. Thanks for the kind worlds, and letting me sit in on your thrift party. 🙂
Thanks Colleen! We loved having you join us this week! 🙂
Your lamp looks fantastic Brynne, I love it! I know what you mean about things in pairs–I’m trying (and failing) to impose that rule for thrifted chairs. Thanks so much for including my king pitcher!
