Thrift Score Thursday 60

April 16, 2015 by Brynne 25 Comments

Good morning all! A very happy #thriftscorethursday to you! The stars aligned yesterday, the living room was tidy, and I was finally able to grab a few good photos of my thrifted lucite coffee table after making you wait for several weeks to see it!

When I spotted this at the thrift store I grabbed the tag and bought it instantly with every intention of reselling it… As the story often goes though, I instantly began to have second thoughts about letting it go.

In between buying it at the thrift store and heading back with a truck to pick it up the next day, I had already made a contingency plan to sell the two vintage brass coffee tables I already have if I brought the lucite table home and fell in love.

Spoiler alert: I fell in love. Hard.

This table is just enormous and the massive lucite legs catch the light and sparkle like cartoon diamonds!

The lucite did have some pretty severe scuffing and scratches – I think the table was dragged on its side at the thrift store – so I was really happy to come across a recommendation online for the Novus plastic polishing kit (affiliate link). It has comes with three polishes: one to help remove heavy -scratches, one to help remove fine scratches, and one to clean and shine.

I focused on the deep scratch areas with the #3 polish, followed up with #2 anywhere I found light scratches, and finished with the #1 spray over the whole table.

While my table still has some of the very deep set scrapes, the Novus polish helped immensely and downright erased many of the lighter scratches! So I just wanted to share with you – if you own a piece of lucite furniture that’s gotten a little hazy from surface scratches or if you find a fabulous piece in the future, keep this product in mind!

The Features:

Now on to all the fabulous features from the #thriftscorethursday Instagram feed!

Mandie from Mid Mod Inspirations (Instagram: midmodmandie) brought home this pristine navy mid century chair for just $50 from the Salvation Army! Swoon!

Is anyone else instantly reminded of Betty Draper and her infamous fainting couch by this incredible tufted chaise Sharla (Instagram: thealabastervessel) found? (For just $6!!!) I think I would NEED a fainting couch if I spotted one for such an incredible price!

Cate from Style Mutt (Instagram: cate_stylemutthome) spotted this old media center in the Craigslist “free” section. While she didn’t end up getting it, I think her idea for repurposing a piece like this is simple brilliant! Check out her virtual transformation below…

Lindsey (Instagram: linnyjanevintage) says this wall hanging is “so bad it’s good and I kind of love it.” Yes, it’s insanely good! I kind of adore it!

Thank you Kristin! I really do have to give a ton of credit to thrift shopping in Dallas – lots of nice things in the thrift stores from old estates!

Hot dang, that table looks perfect in your room among the black and white chairs and that velvety sofa!

Oh the horror of mishandling furniture. So glad you found something to reduce the scratches.

Thank you girl! It can't leave, right? I'm hoping the other tables will sell soon so I can justify keeping this one to Bryan… We both know this would sell in a hot moment, so I need the others to go so I "have" to keep it 😉

I'm in love with your lucite table, too! Where do you sell your castoffs? I would love to peek sometime.

As usual, all the other selections are phenomenal, too. I will definitely keep the product in mind – you just never know when you'll need it!

Thank you Kim! I have them listed on the Dallas/Fort Worth Craigslist – I used to send them out via an email newsletter called "Brynne's List" which I actually just recently shut down since I didn't really have time to keep up with it.

You are so right, Gretchen! After you said that I pulled up old pictures and I could immediately see that the previous coffee table looked too small and dinky next to the enormous buffet! I just didn't realize it before 🙂
