After showing you my “dream team” minimal & modern fall vignette inspiration the other day, I hope I don’t disappoint with the real-life vignette I’m sharing today!
We had some friends over this weekend and, as I shared on The Gathered Home Facebook page, I tend to procrastinate cleaning the house until the pressure of company forces me to rush about like a madwoman for the preceding six or so hours getting everything done. (It’s my system. It works.) Naturally, while zigzagging between vacuuming, sweeping, and stirring spaghetti sauce, I decided it was the ideal time to do a little fall decorating as well.
I already had everything on hand, making this officially the laziest fall decorating post ever.
I mean, I put some sticks in a pitcher.
And of course I used the infamous wooden hands, for a slight spooky nod to Halloween.
My definitely-fake gourds and pumpkin that – fun story – have been living on the floor of my car for the last year or so…don’t ask!
And a few of my friends from my brass-animal-menagerie (everyone has one of those, right?) that felt particularly “fallish”. They are forest friends. The squirrel looks like Gollum. The usual.
That is the extent of my fall decorating for now, though I’d love to do some fall crafts and sprinkle some more autumnal knick-knacks around the house.
But now, I’d love to hear about how you decorate for fall! Do you go all out for Halloween? Sprinkle a few orange leaves around? Do you favor pumpkins of the real or foam variety? I’m all ears!

Brynne! I love the simplicity of this, the sticks in the vase really makes a statement, you may be lazy but you look all together! I'm super lazy this year, I usually have the house decorated for fall on the first weekend in September, I got some of the inside of the house done but never did the outside, even my neighbors asked what was up lol! I am so focused on Christmas I can't bother doing fall this year 🙂 You did a beautiful job with your vignette.
Aw, Dria, thank you! Your fall projects you've shared on your blog are fantastic!
Excuse me while I freak out, because – ahh! – we're supposed to be planning for Christmas already? 😉
LOL GOLLUM SQUIRREL. I actually do a mean Gollum impression, in case you were wondering.
Lol, Megan! I want to see! I want to see! 🙂
Love. Those. Hands! The whole vignette looks really great! I've yet to decorate for fall but I will be soon 🙂
Thanks Caitlin! I am equally creeped out and enamored with those hands… I just imagine hearing those wooden fingers start tapping and it totally freaks me out! 🙂
Ha, you know I go all out.
I need some wooden hands now. I really do, love them!
Julia, you are the queen of fall decorating!
I need to get on my fall decorating game! I need to add some branches and what not to my mantel! You inspired me to get a move on 🙂 Before we know it it will be Christmas and I will need a whole new set of decor. EEK!

The whole Christmas-is-coming is crazy! (All my piano students are already learning their Christmas recital songs!) I move that we spread the decor-heavy holidays out more evenly throughout the year in the future 😛
