What would you know, it’s Thrift Score Thursday once more ‘round here! I’m delighted to have you joining me and my cohost Trisha from Black and White Obsession and our awesome guest host Emily from Go Haus Go this week!
Do you know Emily yet? If not, I’m about to do you the biggest favor ever and introduce you to her fantastic style. Like her gorgeous kitchen makeover of Better Homes & Gardens fame, her sexy office with delectable black walls, and these curvaceous yellow tufted chairs that are quite possibly the coolest pieces of furniture I have ever seen and the ones I am most likely to go to prison for attempted theft…
I can’t wait to see what she’s sharing for #thriftscorethursday this week!

The Features:
How amazing is this Danish midcentury chair Abi from Laughing Abi (Instagram: laughingabi) finally talked herself into purchasing? She says she debated the purchase for an hour because she didn’t have a place for the $70 treasure, but I’m so glad she ended up taking it home! Some things you just can’t walk away from!
You guys know my love for vintage art and portraiture, no matter if it’s a little creepy. So I just love this little 70’s jester-girl with an almost-creepy vibe that Lea (Instagram: livinginlayers) shared, perfect for Halloween!
Kayla from The Gilded Bear (Instagram: kainaible) posted this fabulous tufted sofa on Instagram but sadly wasn’t able to bring it home. Sob!
A reader recently emailed me about a tutorial for dying a velvet sofa she was trying to track down. I wasn’t able to point her in the right direction, but I asked her to pass the tutorial on to me if she ended up finding it, and sure enough she did. Thank you Vonda! (Tutorial here.)
I just can’t help thinking how fabulous Kayla’s sofa find would be dyed a rich royal or navy blue! So thrifters, file this one away for future reference.
My Finds:
These vintage locker baskets were one of my first really good thrift finds several years ago and I’ve hoarded them ever since waiting for the perfect purpose. It just so happens that they are a) the perfect size to hold DVDs, and b) the four of them fit perfectly in my “new” antique buffet-turned-tv-stand. I’m in love!
These baskets were made by Kaspar Wire Works in Shiner, Texas – love the vintage tags!
And now it’s your turn! Share your recent thrifty finds with us! What’s your best score?
Be sure to check out the finds and features from Trisha and Emily as well!
Cassie @ Primitive & Proper says
awesome features- i LOVE the funky art, too! i think, amber, you, and i need to start our own unique art find blog.
I'm feeling it… Let's go!
Those baskets are something else girl. The tags totally make the piece! Someday we'll have something other than a hand-me-down oak cabinet to store our vast collection of DVDs.
I'm excited to get them out of the plastic shoe boxes I was using before… And yes, those tags totally stole my heart!
Thanks so much for having me! It was fun to get back to the thrift stores again!
We are so glad you joined us Emily!
I was in Manchester at the weekend and went to shop called Affleck's palace, full of odd things such as club kid type fashion, but there was a whole section of creepy 70s art..you would have loved it…I was starved and thinking of my stomach so forgot to take any piccies of the entire place. Sorry!
And you seem to have the same taste in films as I do (I know I was meant to be looking at the baskets – which are fab BTW) but I loved Garden State, I have the sound track too it's fab, and have seen the others on show too…I do love an indie flick!
Haha, I do love creepy art, I don't know what's wrong with me!
And you know what, I totally put my favorite movies up front in the baskets 🙂
Whoa that couch!! I wonder how dyed velvet would hold up. I'd be scared, but that couch would be insane in navy!
The blogger who wrote the tutorial says she has done it many times with great results… I'd be willing to give it a try for sure!
Love those baskets! I keep hoping I'll come across some sometime, but it hasn't happened for me yet!
I haven't seen anything similar since finding these three or four years ago. Wishing you luck in your search!
Oh the sofa and the danish chair…YES PLEASE!
Yes indeed! 🙂
Hi Brynne,
I love the baskets but Kaspar Wire Works doesn’t really have a web site. Did you personally visit them in Shiner to get they baskets? Are they still available? Thank you!
Rosemary
Hi Rosemary,
I found these vintage locker baskets at Goodwill. It’s my understanding that they were manufactured between the 1940’s and the 1960’s. You can find others like this by doing a search on Etsy or eBay for “vintage locker basket”.
All the best,
~ Brynne
Thank you, Brynne! I never luck out like that at Goodwill!
